32nd Season
(2007 / 2008)

The actors in THE CARETAKER:

Casting for THE CARETAKER by Harold Pinter, was completed at the end of July. As some of you already know, the Directors of The English Theatre go to England four times a year to cast professional actors. Two of your favourites are returning, Hayward Morse who has been here many times and Steven Lello who played three hilarious characters in last season's GAMEPLAN by Alan Ayckbourn.

Hayward Morse is returning for the seventh time. He will play the tramp Davies, whom Aston has helped to escape from a cafe brawl and brought back to his scruffy one-room flat.

Steven Lello (above) will play Aston, the mentally challenged older brother who rescues Davies, gives him shelter in his room and offers him the job of caretaker for the building. Davies acts like he is interested, but is really averse to doing any kind of work. Aston talks about building a shed, but he never does.

Aston's younger brother Mick will be played by Scott Smith who is coming to The English Theatre of Hamburg for the first time. He is protective of Aston and does not let anyone speak ill of him. Mick plays psychological games with Davies for whom he has no respect. He alternates between open hostility and what appears to be friendliness. He is a menacing character who keeps Davies on edge. Mick owns the run down building that Aston lives in.
