THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, a comedy by William Shakespeare
Premiere on 20 February, 2012; Final Performance on 21 April, 2012
Imagine that you are in are in a small town, unaware that your twin brother is there as well. Imagine further that your brother’s wife mistakes you for him – but not before you have tried to seduce her sister, who thinks you are her brother-in-law. Multiply all of this by two – for there are two sets of twins in the play – and the result is chaos. Based on a work by the Roman playwright Plautus, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS is Shakespeare’s funniest farce, full of mistaken identities, accusations of infidelity and theft, beatings and arrests. But, as in all pure comedies, chaos finally gives way to love and reconciliation. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most audience-friendly, making it a wonderful introduction to his works.
